EPCOT vs Disney's Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios is the better single day and the harder one. EPCOT is the better park and needs a day and a half you probably do not have. Height requirements usually decide it.
The verdict
First WDW trip and everyone clears 40 inches: Hollywood Studios. Toddlers, adults-only, or a group that would rather eat than queue: EPCOT.
Hollywood Studios has the highest concentration of modern headliners at Walt Disney World. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog Dash, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and Toy Story Midway Mania are all in one 135-acre park, and a well-run day gets you most of them. That is why it is the right second day for most first-timers.
It is also the least pleasant day at the resort. Nearly everything worth riding has a height requirement of 38 inches or more, the park has very little shade between Sunset Boulevard and Toy Story Land, and a large share of the day is spent in queues on hot concrete. Take a three-year-old there and you will find perhaps four things they can do.
EPCOT is the better park and the more forgiving day. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the best coaster at Walt Disney World. Test Track, which reopened on July 22, 2025 as its third version, hits the highest speed on property. Soarin', Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After, Spaceship Earth, and the Living Seas pavilion fill out a roster with far more that a small child can ride. And World Showcase is the only place at Walt Disney World where the eating and drinking is genuinely the attraction.
The catch is that EPCOT is 300 acres and does not compress. A single EPCOT day means choosing between riding and eating, and most people who try both do neither well. If you have one day, take Hollywood Studios and its higher hit rate. If you have a day and a half, or if your group has toddlers or no interest in queueing, take EPCOT.
This is the second-day question at Walt Disney World. Nearly everyone gives day one to Magic Kingdom. Day two goes to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, and the choice changes the character of the whole trip.
The two parks are almost opposites. Hollywood Studios is compact, ride-dense, and punishing: seven attractions carry height requirements, the tallest is 48 inches, and the standby waits are the worst on property. EPCOT is enormous, gentle, and slow: five attractions carry height requirements, the park has eleven country pavilions with sixteen table-service restaurants, and you can spend a full day there without riding anything.
As of July 2026, both parks are missing pieces. Hollywood Studios lost Muppet*Vision 3D and the Muppets Courtyard in 2025 to make room for the Monstropolis project, which has no announced opening date. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster reopened on May 26, 2026 rethemed around the Muppets, still 48 inches and still the strongest coaster in the park. EPCOT is more or less complete after a long rebuild of its front half.

The three questions that settle it
Skip the ride lists for a moment. Three facts about your group decide this, and everything else is noise.
- Is anyone in your party under 40 inches? Then EPCOT. Hollywood Studios will give that child four attractions and a lot of standing.
- Is this your first Walt Disney World trip and does everyone clear 40 inches? Then Hollywood Studios. Rise of the Resistance and Tower of Terror are the two rides people talk about afterward.
- Do you have a spare half-day anywhere in the trip? Then EPCOT gets the full day and the half-day both, because it is the only park at the resort that improves when you split it across two visits.
How to run a good EPCOT day
EPCOT punishes people who wander. The park is two halves with a long walk between them, and the trick is to do each half once rather than crossing back and forth.
Start at the front: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or Test Track at opening, whichever your Lightning Lane setup does not cover, then Soarin' and the Living Seas pavilion while the crowd is still concentrated up front. Remy's Ratatouille Adventure is at the far end in the France pavilion and is worth booking a return time for rather than walking to twice.
Move into World Showcase around noon and stay there. Eat in stages rather than sitting down for one large meal — the pavilion quick-service windows are where the interesting food is, and grazing across four or five countries beats a $60 sit-down almost every time.
Watch the nighttime show from the promenade rather than fighting for a front-row spot. Because it plays on the lagoon rather than against a castle, sightlines from three-quarters of the way around are perfectly good, and you will be twenty minutes closer to the exit.
How to survive a Hollywood Studios day
The park's problem is that its seven headliners are all in demand at the same time and there is very little in between. The plan has to be aggressive.
Be at the gate 45 minutes before opening. Rise of the Resistance first if you do not have a Single Pass for it, Slinky Dog Dash first if you do. Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway builds a wait faster than anything else in the park and should be done in the first two hours or last hour, never midday.
Use the theaters deliberately. Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage, and the Frozen Sing-Along are each 25 to 30 minutes of seated air conditioning, and running one of them in the 1 PM to 3 PM window is a better use of that time than standing in a 90-minute queue in direct sun.
Book Oga's Cantina for late afternoon rather than evening. It is easier to get, the room is less crowded, and it puts you inside Galaxy's Edge right when the light gets good — the land photographs far better in the last hour before sunset than at midday.
Fantasmic! runs in a dedicated amphitheater with real seating. Arriving 30 minutes early gets you a fine seat; arriving 75 minutes early, as a lot of guides suggest, mostly buys you a longer sit.
What changed, and what it means for your plan
Hollywood Studios lost Muppet*Vision 3D and the surrounding Muppets Courtyard in 2025. That removed the park's most reliable low-wait, air-conditioned filler attraction, and its absence is felt in the middle of the day more than the ride count suggests. The Monstropolis project taking that space has no announced opening date, and any timeline you see quoted is speculation.
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster reopened on May 26, 2026 as Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. The layout, the launch, and the 48-inch requirement are unchanged; the theme and soundtrack are not. It does not use a virtual queue.
EPCOT's Test Track reopened on July 22, 2025 as the third version of the ride, with a General Motors sponsorship and a redesigned pre-show. It is still 40 inches, still runs about five minutes, and it uses Lightning Lane Multi Pass rather than Single Pass — a detail that trips up people working from older advice.
No attraction at either park permanently uses a virtual queue as of mid-2026. Cosmic Rewind dropped its queue, and so did TRON and Tiana's Bayou Adventure over at Magic Kingdom. If someone tells you to set an alarm for a 7 AM boarding group, that advice is out of date.
The answer for your specific group
Families with a child under 40 inches: EPCOT, and it is not a close call. Nine-plus rides with no height stick versus four.
Families with kids aged eight to fifteen: Hollywood Studios. This is the park that age group talks about on the flight home, and Slinky Dog Dash at 38 inches lets younger siblings in.
Adults with no kids: EPCOT if you like eating and drinking, Hollywood Studios if you want the biggest rides. If you can only pick one and you have never been, take Hollywood Studios — you can get an EPCOT evening on a hopper, but you cannot get a Rise of the Resistance evening.
Repeat visitors on their fourth or fifth trip: EPCOT, comfortably. Hollywood Studios does not change and its day is the same grind every time. EPCOT's World Showcase rewards the unhurried pace only a repeat visitor can afford.
Anyone with mobility limitations or heat sensitivity: EPCOT, with the caveat that you should plan a rented electric conveyance vehicle. The distances are longer but the indoor pavilions are far more frequent, and Hollywood Studios' queues involve long stretches of standing on unshaded pavement.
