Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
Any heightA trackless dark ride that puts you inside a cartoon, with no height requirement — the best headliner at Disneyland for young kids.
Runaway Railway opened at Disneyland in January 2023 as the centerpiece of the rebuilt Mickey's Toontown, three years after the Florida version. It is a trackless dark ride: the vehicles have no visible guide, they rotate and separate and regroup, and the ride uses that freedom to make it feel like the scenery is chasing you rather than passing by.
Tips for Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway
- Do this early. It has no height requirement, which means every family in the park wants it, and it builds a substantial queue by mid-morning.
- The vehicles rotate constantly, so no seat is meaningfully better than another. Do not spend energy angling for a specific car.
- Toontown as a whole opens later than the rest of the park on many days. Check the opening time in the app before you plan a rope-drop run here.
- Ask for the accessible car at the entrance, not at the load platform — routing it from the platform means starting the queue over.
- This is the best pairing at Disneyland with a toddler: ride this, then let them loose in CenTOONial Park thirty seconds away while the adults take turns.
- The pre-show involves several minutes of standing. If someone in your party cannot stand that long, tell a cast member at the entrance and they will make arrangements.
