Asia is set in the fictional kingdom of Anandapur, and it is the most textually dense land in the resort. Prayer flags, hand-painted signs in invented and real scripts, layered mural work, deliberately crumbling stonework, litter and repair that look accumulated rather than placed. Reading the walls here is a legitimate activity.

Expedition Everest rises 200 feet over the village. Its queue runs through a Nepalese booking office and a two-room museum of yeti evidence filled with genuine artifacts sourced in Nepal, and the ride itself has an 80-foot drop, a long backwards section in the dark and no inversions. The single rider line is the most underused time save in the park. Kali River Rapids is next door, five minutes long, one real drop, and a soaking that ranges from damp to complete.

Maharajah Jungle Trek runs behind the village through a ruined palace with Sumatran tigers, Komodo dragons, giant flying foxes and one of the best walk-through aviaries anywhere. It has no queue and no capacity limit, and it is where guests who skip animal trails miss the most. The Caravan Stage nearby hosts Feathered Friends in Flight!, twenty-five minutes of free-flying birds passing low over the audience, and it is the most consistently under-attended good show at Walt Disney World.

Do not miss

  • Expedition Everest and its yeti museum queue
  • Maharajah Jungle Trek's tigers and walk-through aviary
  • Kali River Rapids and the water cannons on the exit bridge
  • Feathered Friends in Flight! at the Caravan Stage
  • Yak and Yeti's fried wontons

Asia tips

  • Use the Expedition Everest single rider line. It routinely turns a 60-minute posted wait into 15 and almost nobody at this park thinks to look for it.
  • Ride Kali River Rapids between 1 PM and 4 PM. Being soaked is a benefit in the afternoon and a misery at 9 AM.
  • After you ride Kali, walk up onto the exit bridge and use the guest-operated water cannons on the next raft. They are free and roughly ninety percent of guests never notice them.

Roller coaster · 3 min · Multi Pass

A 200-foot Himalayan coaster with an 80-foot drop and a long backwards section in the dark - the best-themed roller coaster Disney has ever built.

Expedition Everest opened in 2006 and is still the most complete piece of environmental storytelling in Walt Disney World. The mountain rises about 200 feet over Asia, built with a specificity that goes well past the ride: the queue winds through a Nepalese village, a tea-house booking office, and a two-room museum of yeti evidence stuffed with genuine artifacts the design team bought in Nepal. Read the walls. It is a better museum than most museums.

Tips for Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
  • The single rider line is the best-kept time save in the park. It routinely turns a 60-minute posted wait into 10-15 minutes, and it is almost never busy because guests do not expect a single rider queue at this park.
  • Back row for airtime on the main drop; front row for the view off the first lift and the clearest look at the yeti tableau. The middle rows are the mildest ride if you have a nervous first-timer.
  • Ride standby once for the queue museum, then use single rider forever after. The artifacts in the booking office and museum rooms are real objects sourced in Nepal, not props.
  • Do not warn a nervous rider about the drop and forget the backwards section. Going backwards in total darkness is what actually rattles people on this ride.
  • Repeat-visitor note: the mountain's rockwork encodes a specific mythology and there are yeti footprints, prayer flags and warning signs planted along the walkway outside the queue. Walk the path between Everest and Kali River Rapids and look at the ground.

Water ride · 5 min · Multi Pass

A five-minute river-rapids raft with one real drop, a logging-devastation story, and a genuine chance you finish it completely soaked.

Kali River Rapids sends a twelve-seat circular raft down a course through the fictional Chakranadi River gorge. The story is unusually pointed for a theme park water ride: you float through intact rainforest, then into a stretch that has been clear-cut and set alight by illegal logging, complete with heat, smoke and the sound of chainsaws, before the drop and the ride home. Disney rarely makes a ride an argument. This one is.

Tips for Kali River Rapids
  • Ride it between 1 PM and 4 PM. Being soaked is a benefit in the afternoon heat and a misery at 9 AM when you have twelve hours ahead of you.
  • Use the lockers at the entrance for anything that matters. A zip-top bag is not enough - water comes over the side, not just from above.
  • Bring a spare pair of socks and leave them in the locker. Wet shoes for the rest of a long day is the actual cost of this ride, not wet clothes.
  • The seat position that gets wettest changes with each raft's spin - there is no reliable dry seat, despite what people at the entrance will tell you.
  • Repeat-visitor note: after you ride, walk up onto the exit bridge and use the water cannons on the next raft. They are free, they work, and about ninety percent of guests never notice them.

Animal experience · 25 min

A self-guided trek through ruined palace architecture with tigers, Komodo dragons, giant fruit bats and one of the best walk-through aviaries anywhere.

Maharajah Jungle Trek runs behind Asia through a set built as the crumbling hunting palace of a fictional maharajah, reclaimed by forest and turned into a wildlife reserve. The theming here is the most detailed environmental work in the park after Everest: painted murals telling the story of the kingdom, carved stonework, and structures deliberately weathered to look centuries into decay.

Tips for Maharajah Jungle Trek
  • Go in the first two hours after opening for active tigers. By early afternoon both yards frequently show you nothing but a distant striped lump.
  • Take the free bird identification card at the aviary entrance. Without it most guests walk through in ninety seconds and see four species instead of twenty.
  • There is a marked bypass around the bat enclosure. Use it without shame if anyone in your group is not going to enjoy that, and do not spring the bats on a child as a surprise.
  • Repeat-visitor note: the murals along the trek tell a continuous story of the maharajah's kingdom, its overhunting and its restoration, panel by panel in order. Read them front to back once - it is the most complete piece of written storytelling Disney has ever put on a wall in Florida.
  • The tiger viewing glass at the low panel is the coolest shaded spot on the trek. It is also where the cats choose to lie down on hot afternoons, so it is not a wasted wait.

Show · 25 min · Multi Pass

A 25-minute free-flight bird show at the Caravan Stage where macaws, hornbills and raptors fly inches over the audience.

Feathered Friends in Flight! took over the Caravan Stage in Asia in 2021, following a lineage of bird shows on the same stage going back to Flights of Wonder in 1998. It is straightforwardly what it says: trained handlers work a rotating cast of birds through free flight across an open-air stage and directly over the seated audience.

Tips for Feathered Friends in Flight!
  • Sit in the center block, five or six rows back, for the closest overhead flight paths.
  • The back rows under the canopy are the coolest seats. If you are using this as a rest stop rather than a bird-watching session, go there.
  • This show is rarely full. You do not need a Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection and you do not need to arrive thirty minutes early - ten is plenty.
  • Repeat-visitor note: stay in your seat for two minutes after the show ends. Handlers frequently come to the stage edge with one bird and take questions, and almost the whole audience has already walked out.
  • Sun angle matters. Late afternoon shows put the sun low behind the stage and make photography hard; morning and midday shows light the birds far better.

Snacks worth stopping for

Fried Wontons with Pineapple and Cream Cheese

Yak and Yeti Restaurant

$13.99

Crisp fried wontons filled with pineapple and cream cheese, served hot with vanilla ice cream and caramel at the table-service restaurant in Asia.

Our take: The best dessert in the park and the reason a lot of regulars book Yak and Yeti at all. Order it at the start of the meal so the kitchen paces it and it arrives hot.

Do not leave without it Sweet Vegetarian

Ahi Tuna Nachos

Yak and Yeti Restaurant

$19.99

Seared ahi tuna over crisp wonton chips with avocado, sesame and a sweet-spicy drizzle, served as an appetizer at the Asia table service.

Our take: A shared starter that eats like a light meal for one. Two people can order this and the fried wontons and leave satisfied for well under the price of two entrees.

Near the top of the list Savory

$15.49

Crisp fried chicken in a sweet honey glaze over rice, from the outdoor quick-service counters beside the Yak and Yeti restaurant.

Our take: The item this counter has a reputation for, and it earns it. Sweet, crisp and generously portioned - the best quick-service plate in Asia by a distance.

Near the top of the list Savory

Large fried egg rolls sold as a side at the outdoor Asia counters, filled with pork or vegetables depending on the day's menu.

Our take: Sold as a side and big enough to be a snack in its own right. Two of these plus one shared honey chicken is the cheapest good lunch in Asia.

Snack Walkable

Soft Serve Sundae

Anandapur Ice Cream Truck

$6.49

Soft serve in a cup or cone with toppings, sold from the decorated truck permanently parked on the Asia walkway near Kali River Rapids.

Our take: Ordinary soft serve placed exactly where you want it. Ride Kali first and then buy one - soaked and then frozen is the best five minutes of a July afternoon here.

Sweet Vegetarian Walkable

Loose-Leaf Iced Tea

Royal Anandapur Tea Company

$5.99

Properly steeped loose-leaf tea served hot or iced from a kiosk on the Asia walkway, with blends organized by growing region.

Our take: The most underrated drink in the park. In a place that mostly sells sugar and food coloring, a well-made iced tea with no line is a genuine find.
