What it is
San Angel Inn sits on the floor of the Mexico pavilion's interior plaza, under a painted night sky with a smoking volcano on the back wall and boats drifting past on the ride channel. It is the darkest dining room at Walt Disney World and one of the most atmospheric spaces in any Disney park.
The restaurant is operated in partnership with the San Ángel Inn in Mexico City, and the menu is more traditional than most guests expect — mole poblano, cochinita pibil, chiles rellenos — rather than the Tex-Mex people sometimes anticipate.
The cooking has always been the second-best reason to come. It is solid, occasionally very good, and priced high for what arrives. The room is the reason, and the room is genuinely worth it once.

Tips for San Angel Inn Restaurante
- Ask for a table along the water. The boats passing behind you is the whole point, and the tables against the back wall get much less of the room.
- It is the coolest, darkest room in World Showcase in the middle of a July afternoon. A late lunch reservation here is a strategic move, not just a meal.
- Order the mole. It is the dish this kitchen does best and the one most guests skip in favor of something safer.
- If you cannot get a table, La Cava del Tequila is thirty feet away and the same room, and you can nurse a margarita in that light for a fraction of the cost.
- Photographs come out badly — the room is genuinely dark. Turn off your flash entirely and shoot toward the volcano rather than toward your table.
