What it is
Tiana's Bayou Adventure opened in 2024 in the flume that previously held Splash Mountain, keeping the ride system and the fifty-foot drop while replacing everything else. The story picks up after The Princess and the Frog: Tiana is running a food cooperative and preparing a community celebration, and you follow the search for the last ingredients through the bayou.
The animatronics are the newest at Magic Kingdom and it shows. The Tiana figure in the final room is one of the most convincing Disney has installed anywhere, with fluid facial movement and lip sync that does not read as mechanical. The soundtrack is original zydeco and brass written for the ride rather than lifted from the film, performed by a cast of animal musicians who build across the ride into a full band in the finale.
As a thrill ride it sits between Big Thunder and Space Mountain. There is one significant drop and a couple of small ones, and the rest is a slow scenic float. If you are choosing on drop alone, the fifty-foot plunge is the biggest at Magic Kingdom and it is genuinely steep.
What riding it is actually like
The queue winds through Tiana's salt mine and industrial buildings with real texture — signage, work orders, salt crystals — and is partly covered but not air conditioned. Boats hold eight in four rows of two, and you step down over a high wall into a wet footwell. The whole boat gets some water in it and your shoes will find it.
The first two thirds are gentle: a slow climb, a drift through cypress and Spanish moss, a couple of small dips, and a series of scenes with a frog, a gator playing trumpet and a chorus of critters. There is one short backwards-facing section early on and a small drop in the dark that surprises people who came only for the big one.
The final lift takes you up into a dark chamber, pauses briefly, and then drops fifty feet at roughly forty-five degrees into the splashdown pool. Front row takes the wave; the back row gets airtime and stays comparatively dry. After the splash you float into the finale room with the full band and the Tiana animatronic, which is the best-realized single scene in the park.
Is Tiana's Bayou Adventure scary?
The fifty-foot final drop is the whole story. Everything before it is a gentle boat ride through bayou scenes with music and animals; the drop is steep, fast, and visible from the queue, which is both the warning and the problem. Kids who are 40 inches and cautious should watch the drop from the bridge outside before committing.

You transfer into a log-style boat that sits low in the water, stepping over a high side wall and down into a footwell — the most difficult transfer of any Magic Kingdom water ride. Guests who cannot do that step have no alternative boat here.
Tips that actually help
- Back row if you want to stay drier and get more airtime on the drop; front row if you want the wave. Row one is meaningfully wetter than rows three and four, and there is no seat assignment fight — just tell the loader.
- Do not skip the finale by leaving mentally after the drop. The post-splashdown room is the best scene on the attraction and half the boat is busy checking their phone for water damage.
- Bring a dry bag or a zip pocket. This is a light soaking, not a Kali River drenching, but a phone in an open shorts pocket is a bad bet on the drop.
- Waits here are inflated relative to the ride length. Five minutes of ride for a seventy-minute standby is a bad trade midday; ride it in the first ninety minutes or use a Multi Pass selection on it.
- The drop is visible from the walkway bridge between Frontierland and Liberty Square. Take a nervous 40-inch kid there first and let them watch three boats go over before you commit to the queue.
- On cool mornings in winter this ride is genuinely unpleasant — wet shoes plus wind. It is a warm-afternoon attraction, and the standby line reflects that.
