What it is

Cosmic Ray's is a huge building in Tomorrowland split into three ordering bays, each with a different menu: burgers and chicken in one, barbecue and ribs in another, sandwiches and salads in the third. Guests routinely queue at the wrong bay for what they want.

There is a free toppings bar with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, sauces and cheese sauce, on the same model as Pecos Bill. It transforms an ordinary burger into a reasonable meal.

The permanent entertainment is Sonny Eclipse, an animatronic alien lounge singer who performs original songs on a small stage in the central dining room, all day, to an audience that mostly ignores him. He is one of the best jokes in the park and has been playing the same set for decades.

Our verdict

Loud, enormous and average, redeemed by the free toppings bar and by Sonny Eclipse. Better value than most Magic Kingdom quick service and worse food than Columbia Harbour House.

What to order

The dishes this kitchen is actually known for. Menus change seasonally, so treat this as what to look for rather than a guaranteed list.

  • Bacon cheeseburger
  • Barbecue rib platter
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Plant-based burger
  • Free toppings bar

Tips for Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe

  • Check which bay serves what before you queue. The three counters have different menus and the wrong-line mistake costs ten minutes at lunch.
  • Sit in the central room where Sonny Eclipse performs. He plays original lounge numbers all day and it is one of the funniest things in the park if you actually listen.
  • The toppings bar is free and unlimited. Order the base burger and build it up.
  • The bays close in stages as the day winds down — bay one usually runs latest. Check the app if you are eating close to park close.
  • The outdoor terrace on the Tomorrowland side is quieter than the interior and gets a breeze in the evening, which the interior does not.

Bacon Cheeseburger

Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe

$14.49

A quarter-pound burger with bacon and cheese and fries, ordered from one of three separate bays and finished at the free toppings bar.

Our take: An average burger made decent by the free unlimited toppings bar. Order the base version and build it yourself — the loaded upgrade charges you for what is already free.

Savory

Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe: common questions

Who is Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's?

An animatronic alien lounge singer who performs original songs on a small stage in the central dining room throughout the day. He has been there since the restaurant opened and the material is genuinely funny if you actually stop and listen.

Why are there three lines at Cosmic Ray's?

Three ordering bays serve three different menus — burgers and chicken, barbecue, and sandwiches and salads. They are not interchangeable, and queuing at the wrong one is the most common mistake guests make here.

Does Cosmic Ray's have a free toppings bar?

Yes, a self-serve bar with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, sauces and cheese sauce, included with any entree. It is the single best reason to eat here.
