Seasonal overlay
Disney confirms Holidays at the Disneyland Resort for November 13, 2026–January 6, 2027. Both parks offer included seasonal entertainment and ride overlays; the festival food and optional extras cost more.

The New Jersey Education Association convention closes most New Jersey public schools for a couple of days in early November, and the resulting travel wave lands squarely on Walt Disney World. It reliably produces a busy week in what people have been told is a quiet month, and because it is a single-state break it appears in no national school calendar and no generic seasonal guide.
The actionable move is to look up the convention dates for your travel year before choosing an early-November week, and to book the week after it rather than the week of it. The difference between those two weeks is large.
Disneyland is unaffected by this entirely, which makes early November one of the months where the two resorts genuinely diverge in a way that should influence which one you pick.
Treating Thanksgiving as a Thursday problem is the standard mistake. Attendance builds from the preceding weekend as families travel, holds through the holiday, and peaks on the Friday and Saturday after — those two days are the worst of the month at both resorts.
The counterintuitive detail: Thanksgiving Day itself is frequently the softest day of that week at Magic Kingdom, because a meaningful share of visitors are at a holiday meal rather than in a queue for the middle of the day. A family willing to eat an early or late dinner can get a genuinely good park day on the holiday.
If the dates are fixed to the week, arrive before the preceding weekend and leave on the Friday rather than arriving on the Wednesday and staying through the weekend. The front of the week is materially better than the back.
Food & Wine ends November 21, 2026; EPCOT Festival of the Holidays begins November 27. The two do not overlap, and neither festival operates November 22–26.
If the festival is the reason EPCOT is on your itinerary, that gap is worth checking before you fix the dates. It is a small window and it is entirely avoidable, and it is the sort of thing that only becomes visible once you know to look for it.
The upside of the changeover week is that the rest of the park is at its quietest point of the month, so it is a good week for the attraction side of EPCOT and a poor one for the eating side.
Very Merry begins November 8, 2026, on a 25-night calendar; Jollywood begins November 7 on a 15-night calendar that extends into January. The resort-wide holiday season begins November 13, while EPCOT Festival of the Holidays opens November 27.
A first-week Very Merry night is a genuinely relaxed evening in Magic Kingdom. The same event in the week before Christmas is a very different experience at a higher price, and it sells out months earlier.
The tradeoff to know about: the very earliest nights sometimes run before every seasonal element is fully installed. If a specific parade, show, or overlay is the reason you are buying, that is worth verifying rather than assuming.
Disney’s 2026–27 Holidays at the Disneyland Resort program starts in mid-November and continues into early January. Ride overlays, entertainment and the festival are included with regular park admission, while festival food costs extra.
For Anaheim, look at weekdays after the official holiday opening and before Thanksgiving. Verify individual entertainment times and attraction status; the seasonal window alone does not guarantee every show each day.
Plan for early darkness. Anaheim sunsets fall before 5 PM through November, which means the lighting looks its best from dinner onward and any daylight photography has to happen before mid-afternoon.
