What it is

The Alfresco Tasting Terrace is a covered balcony above Wine Country Trattoria, reached by a staircase most guests never notice. It serves wine by the glass and by the flight, a short cocktail list, and small plates from the kitchen downstairs.

It is the calmest adult space at either Disneyland Resort park. You are one level up from the walkway, under a roof, with a view over the treetops toward Paradise Bay, and the noise of the park drops away noticeably. On a busy Saturday it can be half empty while the ground below is impassable.

The wine program is the best at the resort in terms of range, with flights that let you get through several California regions without committing to bottles.

Our verdict

The best-kept secret at this park. A quiet, shaded, adults-oriented terrace with the resort's strongest wine list. Go before 5pm.

What to order

The dishes this kitchen is actually known for. Menus change seasonally, so treat this as what to look for rather than a guaranteed list.

  • California wine flights
  • Wine by the glass
  • Charcuterie and cheese
  • Seasonal small plates

Tips for Alfresco Tasting Terrace

  • Find the staircase. This is the single most-missed venue at the park precisely because the entrance is not obvious from the walkway.
  • Order a flight rather than a glass. It costs marginally more and it is the only place at the resort where you can taste across regions.
  • Late afternoon, between about 3pm and 5pm, is when this terrace is emptiest and coolest.
  • It closes earlier than the bars near Paradise Bay, so do not plan it as your post-show drink.
  • Repeat visitors: the small plates come from the Trattoria kitchen, so you can effectively eat the restaurant's food up here without a reservation.
