What it is
Incredicoaster is the 2018 retheme of California Screamin', the coaster that opened with the park in 2001 and defined its skyline for seventeen years. The track layout is unchanged — same launch, same loop, same 6,000-foot circuit around Paradise Bay — but the theming, the tunnels, the audio and the on-ride show scenes are all new, built around the Parr family chasing Jack-Jack.
The launch remains the headline. A linear induction motor takes the train from a standstill to roughly 55 miles per hour in under five seconds, up the first hill and straight into the layout. Nothing else at the Disneyland Resort accelerates like it.
As a coaster it is genuinely good: long, smooth, fast, with several strong airtime moments and a loop placed early enough that riders who are nervous about inversions get it out of the way in the first thirty seconds. As a piece of theming, the retheme is a mixed success — the show scenes inside the tunnels are fun, but you pass them at speed and most riders never register what they saw.
What riding it is actually like
You board in the station under the pier structure, restraints lock, and the train rolls into the launch tunnel. There is a short countdown and then the launch, which pins you back hard and carries you over the first hill with real ejector force at the top.
The loop comes early, right after the first big hill, and it is smooth and quick. What follows is the long circuit around the bay: a run of hills with sustained airtime, several helix turns, and passes through tunnels containing the Jack-Jack show scenes. The ride is remarkably smooth for its age, which speaks to how well the original steel track was built.
Sit in the back row for the strongest launch and the most airtime over the hills — the back of the train gets whipped over each crest. Front row gives you the clean forward view of the layout and the tunnels. The middle is the compromise nobody should choose.
Is Incredicoaster scary?
The launch is the whole story: zero to about 55 miles per hour in under five seconds, which is the fastest acceleration at either Disneyland Resort park. After that it is a large, smooth steel coaster with one inversion and sustained airtime hills. Riders who are fine with speed but hate the loop should know the loop is early and brief.
Scores are editorial, on a 1–5 scale, judged against what frightens a typical four- to seven-year-old rather than an adult.

Transfer required into a coaster train with individual lap restraints. Riders must be able to sit upright unassisted and brace against a hard launch. A stationary test seat is available near the entrance; use it if restraint fit is a question.
Tips that actually help
- Ride in the back row. The launch is harder and every hill produces more airtime because the train is already moving when the back car crests.
- The single rider line is short and consistently overlooked, often turning an hour standby into fifteen minutes.
- After dark this ride is transformed. The entire circuit runs above the water with the pier lit, and the launch into darkness is significantly more intense than the daytime version.
- Secure everything. Loose items leave pockets on the launch, and the recovery process for something dropped over the water is not quick.
- Repeat visitors: the tunnel show scenes are timed to the train, and you can only really read one or two per ride. Front row on the right side gives the best look at the mid-circuit scene most people never see.
Timing
- Best time to ride
- First 30 minutes of the day, or after the nighttime show when the crowd disperses toward the exit.
- Typical wait
- 40 to 70 minutes midday; single rider often under 20.

Incredicoaster: common questions
What is the height requirement for Incredicoaster?
48 inches, the tallest requirement at Disney California Adventure. It is measured with shoes on at the stick near the entrance.
Does Incredicoaster go upside down?
Yes, once — a vertical loop early in the layout, right after the first hill. It is smooth and lasts about two seconds. Everything after it is right side up.
How fast is it?
Roughly 55 miles per hour, reached in under five seconds off a linear induction launch. It is the fastest ride at the Disneyland Resort.
Is it rough?
No. It is a smooth steel coaster and it has aged well since the track was built in 2000. The forces are strong but the ride does not rattle or jar the way older steel coasters often do.
Is this the same ride as California Screamin'?
Same track and same ride system, entirely new theme. California Screamin' operated from 2001 to 2018; Incredicoaster opened in June 2018 with new tunnels, show scenes, audio and station theming on the identical layout.
Which seat is best?
Back row for the most forceful launch and the strongest airtime. Front row for the view and the clearest look at the tunnel scenes. Avoid the middle if you have a preference either way.
