What it is
Goofy's Sky School opened in 2011 as a retheme of Mulholland Madness, which had been on the pier since the park's 2001 opening. The layout is a classic Mavericks-style wild mouse: a lift hill, a series of flat 180-degree hairpin turns at the top, then a run of short dipping drops back to the station.
The theme is a flight school run badly, based on a 1940 Goofy short, with signage of increasingly alarming flight instructions along the route. It is charming and completely beside the point once the car starts moving.
The reputation problem is that it looks small. Parents put a 42-inch-tall child on it expecting a gentle first coaster and the child comes off rattled, because wild mouse cars take unbanked corners fast enough that you get thrown hard against the side. It is the single most-underestimated ride in the park.
What riding it is actually like
You climb into a small four-seat car, two rows of two, with a lap bar and not much room. The chain lift takes you up over the walkway, giving a good view across Paradise Bay toward Pixar Pier — the last calm moment you get.
At the top the car makes a sequence of flat hairpins. There is no banking, so on each corner you slide sideways into whoever is next to you while the front of the car appears to hang out over nothing. This is the ride. The drops that follow are short and comparatively mild.
Back row takes the corners harder because it whips through last. Front row gives you the view over the edge, which is the more frightening seat for anyone bothered by heights.
Is Goofy's Sky School scary?
This is a wild mouse coaster, which means flat hairpin turns taken at speed with no banking. The car appears to run off the edge of the track on every corner. It reads as a kids' coaster from the queue and it is not one — the lateral snap surprises adults far more than the small drops do.

Transfer required into a small car with a shared lap bar and limited legroom. Riders must be able to brace against sharp lateral forces. The queue includes a set of stairs to the loading platform with an elevator alternative on request.
Tips that actually help
- Do not treat this as a starter coaster. If a nervous child's first coaster matters, Incredicoaster's smooth launch is actually easier on them than this ride's snapping corners, height requirement aside.
- Sit in the front row if the height bothers you less than the lateral force, and the back row if it is the other way around.
- This is one of the worst rides in the park for motion sickness — flat, fast corners are the exact trigger. Do not do it right after eating at Corn Dog Castle.
- Waits are short all day and shortest in the last hour. This is never worth queueing more than twenty minutes for.
- Repeat visitors: read the flight-instruction signage in the queue. It is one continuous escalating joke and almost nobody gets to the end of it.

Is Goofy's Sky School scary?
More than it looks. There are no big drops and it never goes upside down, but the unbanked hairpin turns at the top throw you sideways with real force and give the impression the car is about to leave the track. Adults are routinely more rattled by it than children are.
Is it a good first roller coaster for a child?
Not especially. The jolting is sharp and unpredictable and the cars are cramped. A smoother ride is a better introduction, even if the theme here looks friendlier.
Will it make me motion sick?
It is the worst offender in the park for that. Fast flat cornering is a classic nausea trigger. If teacups bother you, skip this.
