What it is

Cafe Orleans sits a few doors from the Blue Bayou with a patio facing the Rivers of America and a smaller indoor room behind it. The menu overlaps considerably with its more famous neighbor — the Monte Cristo sandwich is the headline item at both — at a noticeably lower price and with a reservation you can actually get.

The Monte Cristo here is the version most people should be ordering: a deep-fried ham, turkey, and cheese sandwich dusted with sugar and served with berry preserves, which sounds absurd and works completely. It is enormous, easily shared, and the single most-discussed dish at Disneyland after the corn dog.

The pommes frites, tossed with garlic and parmesan and served with a dipping sauce, are the other reason regulars book here. Order them for the table regardless of what else you get.

Our verdict

The best value table-service meal at Disneyland and the smarter booking than the Blue Bayou unless the room is the point. The Monte Cristo and the pommes frites are both genuinely worth ordering.

What to order

The dishes this kitchen is actually known for. Menus change seasonally, so treat this as what to look for rather than a guaranteed list.

  • Monte Cristo sandwich
  • Pommes frites
  • Gumbo
  • Ratatouille-style vegetarian entree
  • Mickey-shaped beignets

Tips for Cafe Orleans

  • Order the Monte Cristo and split it. It is a large sandwich and two adults can genuinely share one plus a side.
  • The pommes frites are the item locals order and first-timers skip. Get an order for the table.
  • Request a patio table facing the river. It is the better seating and it is a request the host can often accommodate at check-in.
  • This is the practical alternative to the Blue Bayou — similar menu, similar neighborhood, meaningfully lower bill, and a reservation you can actually land.
  • Beignets are on the menu here as a dessert, which is a calmer way to eat them than in the Mint Julep Bar queue.

Monte Cristo Sandwich

Cafe Orleans

$25.99

Ham, turkey, and Swiss between bread, battered, deep fried, dusted with powdered sugar, and served with berry preserves for dipping. It arrives cut into quarters and it is enormous.

Our take: It sounds ridiculous and it works completely — the sugar and the preserves land as a foil to the salt rather than as dessert. Split it between two adults with an order of pommes frites; one person cannot finish it and should not try.

Do not leave without it Savory

Pommes Frites

Cafe Orleans

$10.49

Thin-cut fries tossed with garlic, parmesan, and herbs, served hot with a creamy dipping sauce on the side.

Our take: The item Disneyland regulars order and first-timers skip. Get an order for the table regardless of what else you are eating; they are better than the fries at any counter service in the park by a wide margin.

Cafe Orleans: common questions

Is the Monte Cristo the same as the one at the Blue Bayou?

It is the same dish in substance — a deep-fried ham, turkey, and cheese sandwich with berry preserves — served at both restaurants, with presentation and price differing. Cafe Orleans is the cheaper place to eat it and the easier reservation to get.

Can you get a table on the patio?

Often, if you ask at check-in. The patio faces the Rivers of America and is shaded for much of the day, which makes it better than the indoor room in most weather. Table assignment happens at the podium rather than at booking.

Do you need a reservation?

It is strongly recommended, especially at lunch, but Cafe Orleans is far easier to book than the Blue Bayou and does take walk-ups during off-peak hours. Check the app the morning of your visit if you did not plan ahead.
